10 years later (34 vs. 24): Took me 10 years to learn how to smeyes.
I’ve had the flu for a week. Forgive me for acting like a #beardo
This pin was worn by @elizabethtaylor exactly 25 years ago. We now have the tools necessary to create an AIDS-free generation. Get tested, treated, undetectable and together let’s end the stigma around HIV and finally end AIDS globally. @elizabethtayloraidsfoundation @goldenglobes
Tonight women took to the stage, took back their voice, and made their collective case heard loud and clear: #TimesUp . Honored to be reppin’ Elizabeth Taylor who was a pioneer for female empowerment and other humanitarian causes. Special thank you to @naumanpiyarji for making me look all snappy! @goldenglobes @elizabethtayloraidsfoundation
Honored to announce that I have become an official Ambassador for The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation ( @elizabethtayloraidsfoundation ). Tomorrow on the Golden Globes ( @goldenglobes ) red carpet, I’ll be wearing the exact ruby encrusted AIDS ribbon that Elizabeth herself donned exactly 25 years ago. Elizabeth was and will forever be a global pioneer for women’s empowerment issues and global humanitarian causes, and I couldn’t be more proud to use my limited platform in the Middle East and North Africa to end stigma as we work towards an AIDS-free generation and gender equality.
Given my work schedule and location, this holiday I decided to retrace the Freedom Rides of 1961 with a group of friends. I learned more about America’s past injustices, continuous racial issues, and current political climate than I ever could have imagined. I also learned a great deal about myself (and humanity) in the process. My journey took me from former slave ports on the Atlantic, to Civil War cemeteries in Savannah; from cotton fields in Georgia to bustling nightlife in Atlanta. I traveled to the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery, where I witnessed flagrant and unabashed racism first-hand. Most shocking, I saw extreme poverty in Selma, where I proudly walked accross the bridge to renew my commitment to always stand on the right side of justice and fairness. I visited the new Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, Mississippi and rang in the new year in New Orleans, Louisiana. But, what I wasn’t expecting to find were vibrant and diverse #LGBTQ communities throughout! ...And then there was the Southern cooking :) America, you’re beautiful, complicated and anything but perfect — but you’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Please scroll through my pics and consider donating to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The work isn’t done; the Union is far from perfect. ( @splcenter )
Yep. This pretty much sums up how I felt about the history of #Mississippi 👎🏼
