Man, I said I wouldn’t cry any more!! The standing ovation I got last night for the Spirit of Sport award at the @laureussport gala brought me to tears. I was, as always, inspired by the stories of perseverance and integrity of so many incredible athletes. So proud to be a part of the night ❤️🙏🏻 “Sport has the power to change the world.” Nelson Mandela

On this day 9 years ago my life changed. Winning gold at the Vancouver Olympics was the highlight of my career both personally and professionally. Since I’m retired now I’ve been thinking a lot about the past and it makes me happy to know I always gave my heart to skiing. Those Olympics were a prime example... But now @subbanator has my heart and finally the future looks even brighter than the past. 🥰❤️ #nextchapter. (I’ll post the whole run on Facebook Incase you’re interested.)

Åre, Sweden

Literally always wanted to do this! Bringing some American @nfl celebrations into ski racing! Stenmark, the GOAT of ski racing gets a STRIKE (well maybe a spare thx to my brother lol) So much fun!! Thanks team ❤️❤️ Also, haven’t been following skiing since I left but congrats to everyone!

❤️ 🌹🥰

I thought it couldn’t get any better when he surprised me with a goat cake.... but last night he surprised me with a candle lit dinner and a chef!!! I have the best valentine in the world!!!! I love you @subbanator ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks to Red Bull for making this video and supporting me so much over the last 14 years. Amazing to look back on everything and exciting to look into the future. #ChapterOne ________________________ Lindsey Vonn changed ski racing, forever. She has done what no other woman has done before. 8️⃣2️⃣ World Cup wins. 2️⃣0️⃣ World Cup titles. 3️⃣ Olympic medals. 8️⃣ World Championship medals. Without a doubt, her story inspires skiers and non-skiers alike. She set the example for future generations to relentlessly chase after their dreams as big as she did. Forever, we are proud. Here’s to a new chapter!

First day of retirement like... let me sleeeeppppp ☺️

With all of the injuries, the setbacks and the pain it wasn’t perfect but I couldn’t have finished my career any better... it’s as close to a fairytale ending as I can get and it’s all still sinking in.... ❤️🙏🏻 #thankful #againsttheodds #nevergiveup

I DID IT!!!! One last medal in my final race...I couldn’t have asked for anything more! Thanks everyone for the years of support, it means the world to me! ❤️🙏🏻 I’ll post more soon but first it’s time to go home! 🙌🏻

One last time I will stand in the starting gate. One last time I will feel the adrenaline running through my veins. One last time I will risk it all. One last time... I will remember it forever. Let’s do this!

Lucy is clearly not impressed with my German 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ #thatsmygirl

The aftermath of our crashes from yesterday. Can’t wait to see what color they turn tomorrow! #youshouldseetheotherguy

When I said I wanted to make memories in my final races this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.... thankful that nothing worse happened; just a black eye, sore ribs and stiff neck. Thankful I had my airbag on!! (@dainesewinter 🙏🏻❤️) Still one more chance on Sunday in the Downhill, my final race. Knocked down 999 times, stand up 1000 🤷🏼‍♀️#allornothing #onemorerace Also, have to congratulate the champs today @mikaelashiffrin 🥇 @iamsofiagoggia 🥈 @_corinnesuter_ 🥉 Impressive!

Åre, Sweden

Made it to Sweden! ‪Can’t thank everyone enough for the well wishes! 🙏🏻 It is helping me stay positive and has lifted my spirits. Looking forward to creating some lasting memories in my final races next week. ❤️‬ #worldchamps

It’s been an emotional 2 weeks making the hardest decision of my life, but I have accepted that I cannot continue ski racing. I will compete at the World Championships in Downhill and SG next week in Åre, Sweden and they will be the final races of my career. I have always pushed the limits of ski racing and it has allowed me to have amazing success but also dramatic crashes. I have never wanted the storyline of my career to be about injuries and because of that I decided not to tell anyone that I underwent surgery this past spring. A large portion of cartilage that had delaminated from my bone was removed. My crash in Lake Louise last year was much more painful than I let on, but I continued to race because I wanted to win a medal in the Olympics for my late grandfather. Again, I rehabbed my way back this summer and I felt better than I had in a long time. Then I crashed in Copper this November and injured my left knee, tearing my LCL plus sustaining 3 fractures. Despite extensive therapy, training and a knee brace, I am not able make the turns necessary to compete the way I know I can. My body is broken beyond repair and it isn't letting me have the final season I dreamed of. My body is screaming at me to STOP and it’s time for me to listen. Honestly, retiring isn’t what upsets me. Retiring without reaching my goal is what will stay with me forever. However, I can look back at 82 World Cup wins, 20 World Cup titles, 3 Olympic medals, 7 World Championship medals and say that I have accomplished something that no other woman in HISTORY has ever done, and that is something that I will be proud of FOREVER! I always say, “Never give up!” So to all the the kids out there, to my fans who have sent me messages of encouragement to keep going… I need to tell you that I’m not giving up! I’m just starting a new chapter. Don’t lose faith in your dreams, keep fighting for what you love, and if you always give everything you have you’ll be happy no matter what the outcome. Thank you for the amazing years, for always supporting me, and for making my job so fun. Can’t wait to see some of you in the finish in Åre where I will give it my all one last time. Love always, Lindsey

Thanks for making me smile today ❤️🇺🇸 @lalalaurenne @aliweather_ #oneteam

My sincerest congratulations on an amazing career @asvindal 👏🏻 You’re truly a champion, on and off the slopes. You’ve had some incredible crashes (Kitzbühel 2016 was insane 🤦🏼‍♀️) and even more incredible comebacks. Thanks for always inspiring me to push harder. Cheers 🥂 to the memories my friend! Some stats 👑: 4 Olympic medals (2x gold) 8 world championship medals 36 victories 11 World Cup globes including 2 overall titles

Unfortunately racing this weekend in Garmisch isn’t in the cards. My knee is still not ready to race. I am working as hard as I can to be back as soon as possible. My deepest apologies to everyone who was planing to come and cheer me on, including the Americans at the military base who have been so supportive over the years. I will cherish the memories I’ve made in Garmisch, especially my slalom win 🙌🏻 😜 Wishing my teammates good luck @lalalaurenne @aliweather_ and all the best for your comeback @iamsofiagoggia 💪🏻
