Had a lovely conversation with a friend of mine in the industry this past, Friday. We discussed the peaks and valleys in our personal and professional lives and shared our observations from the journey thus far, nine years in. #NBD We realized most people give up way before they ever get started; how most limit themselves and or make it all about them. I’ve done both. And that being a working actor means putting in the work, everyday. It’s athletic. Diverse. To be the best you must train like the best. With the best. Effort shows intention. Form over function! Good things. Furthermore, this industry is a lifelong choice. If you do decide to explore the artists journey, we implore you to make a consistent life-choice to master your crafts. Surround yourself with talented and equally passionate people. Understand, money is the byproduct of your work. Get away from anything safe or anything that feeds your bad habits. Consistency and discipline is key. Make a real life plan. All in all, the most important rule to our happiness/success is to build genuine relationships, starting with self. Simply trust. Lastly, we sat and shared some projects we’ve been creating; giving positive authentic feedback, going over how to aid idea and execution, and pushing each other to get better. To keep this inspired spirit going I’d like to share some fun stuff w/ you all. This past year and a half has been an experience to say the least. I’ve written a one hour pilot and outlined/plot points for two seasons, written three short films, with decks for all. One fully completed, the other currently in post production. One in development and I’m currently writing a feature to be shot out of country. Mind you these projects are all just practice. The byproduct of learning and failing at writing has made me a better writer and actor. Learning how to write and act has made me a better director. Working my directing skills by shadowing other skilled directors on my projects has made me a better watcher/listener/actor/writer...and all of that has made me a better producer because, I live to get work done. Full circle, craft work allows it possible to add value to projects like this.
